Gary, this brings back fond memories of my childhood and how the relationships with my siblings has endured. I have so many favorite memories....who will know of them when I'm gone. Take care, friend, Jeannie
Hey Jeannie, I know what you mean. I love it that our families were so connected with lots of crossover memories. I especially remember long summer nights at your folks place with the handmade telescope, looking at planets. I find it a little cathartic to write of those things. Maybe you can start writing? Or do you already?
I too am annoyed by the useless memes bouncing back and forth to further divide people rather than unite, and I agree that the US has been dominated by the rich and powerful elite, one of which I know you admire, however those elite have assumed power by overriding the checks and balances that do provide some sort of protection to our environment, and constitutional rights. But whining and tattling? Just let it go? I'm sorry, I will speak out, write and call house representatives and senators. I could not look into the eyes of my grandchild knowing that I just moved along and became complicit. Perhaps it is because women mostly take the brunt of struggles, like the Latina women who spoke up and stood up by taking to the streets when THIS country's elite imposed intended shock on their socialist systems in order to privatize and rape labor and resources! This is what they are doing right now in this country! I suggest to anyone who cares call senators and reps, flood the lines, speak out!
I appreciate the comment and you make some good points. Being proactive as best one can is essential for any system to work. My point was more along the lines of what I think to be wisdom in the idea of not fighting angry. Whether one is in a boxing ring or political arena, fight strategically, persistently, and methodically, but don't ever fight in a state of outrage. Also, it's a good idea to remember that one's opponent likely wants the same things you do...security for themselves and their progeny. Of course, some are motivated by greed but I think not the majority. So, at least in the political arena, cogent dialog (without outrage) can help people to find that common ground and move towards resolution. So the "let that shit go" message was meant to inspire methodology in one's actions rather than complacency. And I was referring specifically to the barrage of random, not helpful and nearly *always* one-sided venting that I see these days on social media. We seem to agree on that. I'd just stay away from Soc Media but as you know, I depend at least in part on Soc Media to advertise my business and stay in touch with family and my community, so I do see the random stuff. I'm sorry all of that was not more clear in my OP.
